ALT's ViTAL - Video in Education SIG (ViTAL SIG) was established in February 2010 and also has links with the Higher Education Academy.


The remit of this SIG is to identify and share up-to-date information and guidance on:

  • Institution wide best practice for the management of digital resources, and the integration with external electronic repositories,
  • Sound pedagogical principles in designing video materials for educational purposes,
  • Guidance on issues concerning copyright and IPR, practical guidance on addressing accessibility and usability criteria with reference to DDA.

Get involved

You can get involved in the  SIG directly via the Ning site ( which will be the platform for discussion, and sharing ideas and thought about the various issues surrounding the use of video within education, such as pedagogical/ technical/ legal and accessibility.
The SIG also has wiki ( which will be used to publish articles which have come out of discussion.
