At the School of Education, we saw an opportunity to use 360° image/video capture and VR technology to provide our students with immersive experiences. We are building a library of virtual spaces that include a diverse range of spaces such as classrooms, learning spaces, parks and playgrounds, museums and galleries. These can be experienced by students in a variety of ways - from using high-end VR headsets in the classroom such as Oculus Quest, inexpensive cardboard VR headsets, standard smartphones, or simply viewed in a web browser.<br />
<br />
The webinar will be aimed mainly to those who are perhaps thinking about their first steps into using these kinds of technology (but of course anyone is welcome!), so it won’t be overly technical. We’ll give an outline of the project, discuss the production process in terms of what equipment and software we use, how we capture and process media and how we present this to students. We’ll also cover the many challenges we’ve had, such as finding a suitable platform, dealing with interactivity, student contributions and of course we’ll reflect on how it’s all worked in practice and what the students think.</p>
<p><b>CMALT Accelerator Workshop </b></p>
<p>This 1-day standalone workshop is designed to help CMALT candidates fast-track work on their portfolio in order to submit it to peer review. The workshop will provide tailored support for individuals as well as peer support in a group of CMALT candidates all working towards CMALT accreditation. </p>

<p><b>Pre-workshop activities</b></p>
<p>When you register for the workshop, you will be asked to complete a short profile including what accreditation pathway you are on (CMALT, Senior or Associate), which sections of the portfolio you would like specific help with and how far you have progressed overall. </p>
<p>In the week before the workshop, you will receive pre-workshop activities to complete to start progressing your portfolio. </p>
<p><b>Workshop Day</b></p>
<p>The workshop day has both live sessions and asynchronous activities scheduled from 9.15am to 4.00pm and concludes with networking opportunities with other candidates. The first half of the day will be focused on strategies for writing specific portfolio sections, including practical examples from accredited portfolios. The afternoon session will provide time for individual support and a peer review exercise. </p>
<p><b>Post-workshop support</b></p>
<p>Following on from the workshop day, you will receive the workshop materials to support you as you complete your portfolio. </p>
<p><b>Who should attend?</b></p>
<p>Anyone registered for CMALT who is keen to complete their portfolio more quickly, candidates who are working towards CMALT looking for more support and anyone looking to revise a referred portfolio. Engineering is the field or discipline, practice, profession and art to cater to social needs. Cooperative and collaborative forms of learning with hands-on experience have proven to be effective leaning methods for engineering subjects. Hence, a teacher is no longer the primary source of knowledge and their role has shifted to a student-centric facilitator. Student-centered learning plays a major role in the education sector, requiring the teacher to work mainly as a facilitator. Problem Based Learning (PBL) provides an opportunity for the teacher to restructure the mode of teaching. Moreover, the increased use of mobile smart devices has changed the students’ pattern of learning. Thus, this presentation presents a Mobile Learning Framework to support Problem Based Learning (MobiPBL) that was developed using a design-based research approach. When designing mobile PBL activities teachers has to consider on a real-world scenario which can be divided into sub-problems. Students should be able to share information easily as audio/video/ text and when sharing information bandwidth and file have to consider. Globally, 1.3 learners from schools and universities were affected with schools and universities being forced to close. When universities opened in September 2020, they adopted blended learning strategies which mix online with face-to-face teaching to protect students from being exposed to the virus. According to an Ipsos survey from the World Economic Forum of adults in 29 countries, almost three-quarters (72%) of respondents said higher education would be conducted online at least as much as in-person, if not more. The survey also found that only just over half (53%) of respondents agreed that in-person higher education is worth its cost, compared to just over a third (36%) who disagree.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10pt; font-variant:normal; white-space:pre-wrap"><span style="font-family:'Helvetica Neue',sans-serif"><span style="color:#000000"><span style="background-color:#ffffff"><span style="font-weight:400"><span style="font-style:normal"><span style="text-decoration:none">This conference will explore the experiences of universities and colleges from England, Scotland and Wales in shifting rapidly to online and blended learning. It looks at different models of blended learning and how digital can be embedded into university culture with a long-term strategic view. It explores the best ways of combining digital learning with face-to-face learning in ways which will be powerful and motivational for students.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>

The recent proposal by the Johnson government to cut funding for Arts subjects at universities by 50% is just the latest in a long line of attacks aimed at diminishing the place of the Arts and Humanities within the Higher Education sector. As well as putting limits on learning, this approach threatens, paradoxically, to do significant damage to the national economy given the £84 billion the Arts sector contributes annually to the UK economy or the 1.7 million British jobs it provides.<br />
<br />
While it is important to counter such attacks politically through lobbying, petitions and other forms of activism, it is also crucial to demonstrate the value that the Arts and Humanities can bring to areas of activity not normally closely associated with them. This paper constitutes one such attempt. In it, I explore the contribution ideas and concepts from the Arts and Humanities such as ethics, discourse, rhetoric, visualisation and aesthetics can make to the field of online and blended learning design. This includes, but is not limited to, the role that such ideas might play in the evaluation of effective online learning design, their influence in shaping the way that learners think and feel about their learning and finally how these concepts can be harnessed to stimulate action effective for learning.<br />
<br />
It concludes by interrogating the idea that the best of all worlds might, in fact, be one in which learning designers draw on frameworks and ideas from all of the main disciplinary areas (Arts, STEM, Social Sciences, Education) to create the conditions optimum for student learning.<br />
