If you haven't yet registered for the course then you can still do so via the ocTEL registration form.

This week's webinar

You can access this week's session via <a href="https://sas.elluminate.com/m.jnlp?sid=7565&password=M.F276ABBC318DCD... link (please note the session will not be live until one hour before the start time).

This week’s session looks at examples of enhancement and evaluation in TEL and asks two fundamental questions:

What can we achieve through TEL?

How do we know that we have made a difference?

After a very brief introduction by Peter Hartley, our three speakers and their case studies are as follows:

Mark Kerrigan is the Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment in the Faculty of Health Social Care and Education for Anglia Ruskin University. He will be talking about the enhancement and evaluation of the iPads in Science initiative, a project by the University of Greenwich (where he used to work). More information and a case study on the project can be found here:
<a href="http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/bestpractice/Copy_of_publications/effective_use.a...

James McDowell is University Teaching Fellow in the School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Huddersfield. He will be talking about the development of work which won him the 2011 ALT-Epigeum Award for the Most Effective Use of Video. This award recognized the important contribution he has made to the enhancement of student learning through his use of video feedback - http://eprints.hud.ac.uk/19915/

Keith Smyth is a Senior Teaching Fellow and Senior Lecturer in Higher Education at Edinburgh Napier University, where he leads the MSc Blended and Online Education and works on TEL-related strategic initiatives. Keith will be talking about the development, dissemination and evaluation of the 3E Framework for technology-enhanced learning, teaching and assessment. Since being introduced as the basis for Edinburgh Napier's Benchmark for the Use of Technology in Modules, the 3E Framework has been adapted and implemented by over 25 institutions within and beyond the UK - http://3eeducation.org/3e-framewor...

This webinar will provide two perspectives on OER policies and seek to answer some of the key questions related to Open Education and OER policies. The questions below will drive the session delivered by our presenters and form the basis of the discussion which follows.

Why have a policy?

What are the problems in developing a policy?

How do you get your teaching staff on board?

Did it require extra staff (as with MOOCs in some cases)?

What are the main elements of your policy? For example, is there was a minimum/maximum amount of OER that could be used e.g. only 50% could be made up from OER.

Have you had feedback from students about the policy?

Has there been feedback (good/bad) from students as a result?

What have been the key benefits of developing and having a policy?

A recording and slides from the webinar are now available from the ALT Repository.

This webinar will describe some recent developments in Open Educational Resources (OER) in Wales and beyond. Last year, a working group was set up by the Welsh Government to consider possible approaches to OER and MOOCs. Its report highlights some key initiatives and agendas, and these will be discussed in more detail. At the same time, Higher Education Wales published a Declaration of Intent, committing Welsh universities the promotion and use of OER to further several key aims, including quality of learner experience, widening access, and the promotion of the Welsh language in Higher Education. Paul will consider some of the implications of these strategic developments, and discuss how some current initiatives are addressing these. Debbie will tell us in more detail about her own work with OER Wales Cymru, which is the first in a series of projects underpinning the Declaration of Intent. You can read more about the project at www.oerwales.ac.uk.
