Early call for expressions of interest in Chairing the 2016 ALT Conference

ALT's Trustees are seeking an experienced Chair (or up to 3 Co-Chairs) for the 2016 Conference Programme Committee and its executive, who will play a major role in planning and delivery of ALT's 23rd annual conference in 2016. For information about previous and current ALT conferences, see http://www.alt.ac.uk/altc

We are looking to appoint a person (or up to three people) with the following qualities:

  •     National/international standing in the learning technology field;
  •     The commitment and vision to make the conference a success;
  •     The capacity to chair a major international conference, and its programme committee;
  •     Enthusiasm for and/or experience of working with ALT.

The conference format evolves each year to keep pace with the changing expectations and priorities of participants and speakers. While sessions formats and programme delivery may change, the focus of the conference, providing a valuable and practical forum for practitioners, researchers, managers and policy-makers from education and industry to solve problems, explore, reflect, influence and learn, remains strong.

The role is unremunerated, but travel and subsistence costs will be met by ALT, with the conference fee waived.

Planning and organisation of the conference will be the responsibility of the ALT senior staff and the Chair/Co-Chairs of the Programme Committee, with support from key committee members and from the ALT staff team.

To express an interest, please send an email to Maren Deepwell maren.deepwell@alt.ac.uk, organised under the 4 headings above, to arrive by 30 September 2014. Expressions of interest from pairs of people interested in co-chairing with each other can be submitted as a single email. As an informal guideline, please limit your expression of interest to no more than 500 words in total. We would prefer to appoint someone who has not previously chaired or co-chaired altc.

A call for Programme Committee members for 2016 will be issued in 2015 and we expect that a substantial proportion of Programme Committee members will have been involved with previous ALT conferences i.e. they are an experienced and constructive body of people who will be a delight to work with.
