<p>This pre-conference webinar taking place in the week of the Online Winter Conference is run by the ALT Open Education Special Interest Group (OESIG).</p>

<p>This free webinar will give a highlight of exciting open education news and practices from the annual &#39;OpenEd&#39; Conference to be held this year in Vancouver, 18-20 November (#opened15). The webinar will focus on teaching practices, research and policy from the perspective of US, Canadian and international communities.</p>

<p><strong>The webinar will be presented by:</strong></p>

<p>Dr Viv Rolfe from the University of the West of England, who is presenting at the Vancoujver conference on innovation in open educational practice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>David Kernohan from Followersoftheapocalyp.se, who is presenting on trends and patterns in open education research over the past decade.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Both presenters will share highlights from their talks and the best from the conference.</p>

<p>The next GLSIG live meeting will be held in Manchester from midday on Wednesday 11th, to midday on Thursday 12th November 2015. It will be hosted by Manchester Metropolitan University, and is timed to link in with Prof. Nicola Whitton&#39;s inaugural lecture on the afternoon of 12th November (to which GLSIG members are invited). The event is free, but members are asked to arrange their own transport and accommodation.</p>

It will look at the impact of some of the newer approaches to assessment such as the use of Open Badges, as well as more familiar approaches like online quizzes and electronic submission. In addition it will explore assessment approaches which consider inclusive practices, and assessments designed to look at developing learners&rsquo; digital skills and practices. Tracey has experience supporting and implementing digital solutions across the sectors from secondary schools to further and higher education. Tracey is very active on the ALT-MEMBERS mailing list and in the call we explore her interests digital media, current projects and involvement in the ALT Community.</p>
