Our current Editor-in-Chief, Michael Flavin, will be stepping down after over 5 years as Editor-in-Chief of Research in Learning Technology (RLT). Michael’s involvement began in 2012 with the publication of his first article in the RLT journal. In 2018, Michael joined the RLT Editorial team before assuming the role of Editor-In-Chief in 2020.
As Editor-in-Chief, Michael has been responsible for guiding the strategic direction and maintaining the editorial quality of the RLT journal, alongside overseeing the peer-review process, enforcing our editorial standards and ensuring timely publication of articles. Micheal has upheld the journal’s mission, enhanced the journal's impact and ensured it has maintained its status as a quartile 1 publication. During his tenure, Michael successfully led the RLT Editorial team and supported ALT’s community to publish and access high-quality research in the field of learning technology.
On stepping down, Michael commented:
I joined Research in Learning Technology as an editor in 2018 and took on the Editor-in-Chief role in 2020. I am delighted to have been part of the team that consolidated the journal as quartile one in its field. The credit goes rightly to the people I have worked alongside, who now enter an exciting phase in which new experts will join the editing community. I am confident they will be imaginative innovators who will take the Journal to new heights. I hope to retain a role within the ALT community, because there is still so much more to learn from its eclectic community of scholars and IT professionals.
CEO Susan Martin commented:
We want to extend our thanks to Michael for his years of dedication to the RLT journal. Michael became Editor-in-Chief following the very sad and unexpected passing of Editor-in-Chief Lesley Diach. Since assuming the role, Michael has successfully led the Editorial Team and maintained the journal’s status as a quartile 1 journal. Thanks to Michael and the Editorial Team, our members have a space to publish and access high-quality, open research.
The Board of Trustees and ALT staff team extend their thanks to Michael for his commitment and dedication to the role over the past 5 years.
We will be inviting expressions of interest to become our next Editor-in-Chief. Details on what the role involves and how to submit an Expression of Interest will be published shortly
