Meet the OER25 Co-Chairs

OER Co-Chairs

The 16th Annual Open Education and Research Conference (OER) ‘Speaking Truth to Power: Open Education and AI in the Age of Populism’, will be co-chaired by Sheila MacNeill and Louise Drumm.

The Co-Chairs are inviting proposals that focus on the future of Open Education in a changing world submitted by Monday 7 April 2025. 

About the Co-Chairs:

  • Sheila MacNeill (Independent)
    Sheila MacNeill is an independent educational consultant, educator, artist and open educational practitioner. Having spent nearly 20 years in the UK Higher Education Sector, Sheila now works with a range of universities and educational organisations within the UK and internationally supporting the development of approaches to learning, teaching and assessment.
     
  • Dr Louise Drumm (Edinburgh Napier University)
    Dr Louise Drumm is an Associate Professor in Digital Education in the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement at Edinburgh Napier University, where she leads the MSc in Blended and Online Education. She contributes to institutional and sector-wide ethical and responsible responses to generative AI in higher education. With a diverse professional background as a learning technologist, academic developer, software developer, and theatre practitioner, she adopts open and creative approaches to teaching and academic development. Her research explores the relationship between theory and digital education practices and policy, critical digital pedagogy, open education practices, feminist pedagogies, and digital literacies.
     

This year’s conference will take place on 23 and 24 June 2025 in London at the Resource for London conference centre. Delegates can look forward to a diverse programme showcasing innovative practices, groundbreaking projects, and impactful research, offering fresh perspectives on Open Education’s evolving role in our rapidly changing world.

OER25 Call for Proposals

We are currently seeking session submissions for the OER25 Conference. Proposals should be related to the theme of ‘Open Education and AI in the Age of Populism’.  Please submit through the Oxford Abstracts System by noon on Monday 7 April 2025. To submit your proposal, you will need to create an Oxford Abstracts account.
