ALT supports the FutureDotNow Workforce Digital Skills Charter

The workforce digital skills charter

ALT is proud to sign the FutureDotNow Workforce Digital Skills Charter to help close the digital skills gap in the UK.

What is FutureDotNow & the charter?

FutureDotNow unites businesses to tackle the gap in the digital capability and confidence of the UK workforce.

The Workforce Digital Skills Charter is a shared statement of ambition – a rallying cry for concerted and focused action to close the essential digital skills gap in the UK workforce.

The Charter unites organisations to build a future-fit, digitally confident workforce. It asks signatories to make a commitment to:

  • Raise awareness of the workforce essential digital skill gap.
  • Work together to supercharge action as part of a national change programme.
  • Empower people of working age to build solid digital foundations.

What is the Essential Digital Skills gap?

21.7 million people of working age cannot complete all the digital tasks that government and business agree are essential for the workplace. It is easy to assume smartphones mean everyone is digitally confident. However, millions of people are trapped in a ‘hidden middle’ between digital exclusion and advanced digital skills.

Why has the Association for Learning Technology signed the charter?

As a member organisation, ALT works to support and develop the digital skills of learning technology professionals. ALT recognises the pivotal role of learning technology professionals in addressing the digital skills gaps within their organisations through the support learning platforms, creation of learning content and provision of guidance, training and expertise needed to develop the digital skills of colleagues, students and peers within their organisations. By signing the charter, ALT reaffirms its commitment to developing the skills of its members and learning technology professionals.

ALT has joined a coalition of industry leaders working to ensure that all working age adults have the digital skills they need to benefit their own prosperity and UK productivity. ALT recognises the vital importance of addressing the digital skills gap and adds its voice to the call for action.
