The Association for Learning Technology (ALT) is issuing a reminder that the Call for Proposals for OER26 closes on Monday, 13 April at midnight. The conference, taking place at The Open University, UK, from 22–23 June 2026 in Milton Keynes will explore the theme “Openness Reimagined: Continuity, Change and Shared Vision.”

Themes and Areas of Interest

This year’s call is organised around six clusters that reflect the evolving landscape of open education. We encourage submissions from researchers, practitioners, educators, students, policymakers, technologists, librarians, instructional designers, and community organisers.

  • Openness as Social Transformation — examining openness as a driver of systemic change, its relationship to social movements, and its long‑term sustainability as a public good.
  • Reimagining Openness: Theory, Technology, Futures — exploring how openness adapts to emerging technologies, including AI, and what new theories or futures might be needed.
  • Openness as Justice — interrogating equity, power, decolonisation, accessibility, and global perspectives on who benefits from open education.
  • Open Practices and Pedagogical Innovation — showcasing practical work: OER/OEP case studies, curriculum design, institutional strategies, accessibility, and impact.
  • Openness as Care — highlighting the relational, ethical, and often invisible labour that sustains open ecosystems, and how care shapes sustainable practice.
  • Open Minds (Wild Card) — a space for creative, experimental, or unconventional contributions that push the field in new directions.

Proposal Formats

Contributors are invited to submit proposals in a range of formats designed to support diverse ways of sharing and exploring open education work, including research papers, workshops, panels, posters and lightning talks. We are also looking to accept Innovative or non-traditional formats that embody the spirit of openness, including collaborative design sessions, multimodal contributions, artistic interventions, and community-led dialogues.

Deadline Approaching

The final deadline is Monday, 13 April at midnight, and late submissions will not be accepted. ALT encourages both new and returning contributors to help shape the future of open education. Submit now.

Please note that due to the tight turnaround on publishing the conference programme, this deadline will not be extended.
