ARLTSIG - Achieving inclusive education using AI

Registration is closed for this event

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used within the education sector to address prevailing challenges such as lack and/or deficiency of human resources in supporting excellent student experience and outcomes. To this end AI applications such as chatbots, assessment grading systems, adaptive learning systems have been designed, developed and deployed.

However, it is important to recognise that students are not having equal experiences, with some having significantly better experiences than others. This stems from the fact that the intrinsic design of most of the existing systems lend itself to the service of certain groups of students, whilst disadvantaging others. As citadels of learning, it is incumbent upon us to champion the creation of AI systems specifically designed to address the inclusivity challenge facing our education system.

Presenter: Olatunde Durowoju, Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion for the Faculty of Business and Law, Liverpool John Moores University & Vice-Chair ARLT SIG.
