Free and Open Educational Resources: Electronic treasure chest or irrelevance to adult learners?

Subheading:
NIACE & Association for Learning Technology (ALT) Seminar

This seminar is for teachers and curriculum managers in Adult Education, Work-based learning, Offender Learning, Further Education and Higher Education who wish to make better use of existing open educational resources and who would like to make sure that materials they create can be used by others.

A wide range of learning resources are freely available over the internet. How can we make best use of these for adult learners? Some of these resources have been explicitly published as “Open Educational Resources” (OERs), and they include traditional learning materials and also resources such as video, audio and software. To make best use of them, teachers are adopting new practices to help them locate, adapt and adopt what they find.

This event will help you to find out more about:

  • how you can use OER to benefit your learners in taught courses, for independent study and within online sessions
  • how to contribute to improving the overall stock of OER so that others can benefit from your work.

Outcomes:

At the end of the seminar participants should be able to:

  • identify the main sources of Open Educational Resources
  • understand some of the licensing arrangement for using Open Educational Resources
  • identify the opportunities and challenges associated with using Open Educational Resources
  • understand the sources of support for developing Open Educational Practices.
