Presenter: Mari Cruz Garcia Vallejo

This is an open session aimed at digital educators and professionals whose expertise and skills can be usually defined under the label of "learning technologist" (those who are actively involved in managing, researching, supporting or enabling learning with the use of learning technology). In this session we will look at the impact of Covid-19 and the "remote working" situation in the role and professional ranking of "learning technologist" as well as routes for progression and career development. In particular we will look at the following progression routes:

1) HE institutions, UK-based, European and internationally.
2) Private sector.
3) Self-employment (contractor).

The session will cover pros and cons for each of the routes, including what it means to change jobs while "remote working" as well as the challenges and opportunities that those professionals thinking of moving jobs/institutions need to consider in the current work situation.

Mari Cruz is a senior fellow at Advance HE and a digital education expert. Working for Telefónica Móviles International, she was the founder of the Interconnection Department at the start-up company Group 3G-Quam (Germany). In the United Kingdom, she has worked in three top-ranked universities and was part of the initial team that started the Kuwait Scotland eHealth Innovation Network (KSeHIN), an educational partnership between the Dundee Medical School and the Dasman Diabetes Institute.
