The Learning Lab:  Making use of emerging technology to support digital literacy-in-action

Presenter: Joy Howat, Team Leader, Learning Technologies, Dundee and Angus College

The Learning Lab at Dundee and Angus College is an innovative space enabling staff and learners to explore new ways of learning and teaching with technology. It is a facility which ensures that the college is at the forefront of how we might make use of emerging technology to support student success by engaging staff and students in hands-on learning.

The webinar will cover how Dundee and Angus College are supporting 21st century learning through the Learning Lab, and give examples of how this prepares students for employment and life-long learning in a world which is becoming increasingly reliant on being digitally literate. Joy will explain the background to how the Learning Lab came about, what has been achieved and the key experiences for users, which include:

  • Interacting and experimenting with innovative and emerging technologies
  • Exploring and learning how to apply technologies for learning
  • Sharing ideas and knowledge that promotes student success

The session will include some examples of the impact the Learning Lab has had on student experiences to date and how it has engaged students. Joy will discuss how the college hopes to build on the success of the Learning Lab, how it will play an important role in the development of a digital strategy for the college, and will share some advice based on experiences at the college.
