Blackboard took the European Union General Data Protection (GDPR) as an opportunity to strengthen our global data privacy practices in the EU and worldwide. A key aspect of the program was enhancing our documentation and processes that support our clients with their compliance with GDPR. This includes robust data processing agreements, embedding a privacy by design approach and strengthening our vendor controls.

Many GDPR requirements leave room for interpretation and have not been clarified by the data protection authorities yet. Many organisations are therefore still struggling with turning the GDPR requirements into practical implementation steps. Blackboard's GDPR implementation program has translated the GDPR requirements into specific and actionable steps for all functional areas from product teams over Marketing to HR. Product requirements have been developed to guide the product teams.

During this session we will explain how Blackboard is implementing the GDPR, how our efforts support our clients and how we have translated the GDPR requirements into practical actionable steps.

  • Stephan Geering - Blackboard Global Privacy Officer, Associate General Counsel
