The 2014 ALT winter conference will take place on Tuesday 2 December at the Informatics Forum, University of Edinburgh, UK. This first winter conference will have a focus on creative approaches to professional development in Learning Technology and CMALT, ALT’s peer-based accreditation scheme and feature a hands-on new technology showcase.

The winter conference brings together experienced and new practitioners from colleges, universities and informal learning, early-career and cross-disciplinary researchers and technology experts to share, explore and connect with the community. Melissa Highton

Melissa Highton is Director of Learning, Teaching and Web Services Division (LTW) at the University of Edinburgh. She leads services and projects in support of the University’s strategic priorities for digital education, the digital student experience and use of the web for outreach and engagement. LTW manage the continuing expansion and diversification of the University website and provide technology services in over 300 teaching rooms across the campus. The  Division brings together technology enhanced learning, e-learning, OER, MOOCs,  web services, graphics, multimedia and classroom technology teams to support learning, teaching and research.

Gian Marco Campagnolo

Gian Marco Campagnolo is Lecturer in Science, Technology & Innovation Studies at Edinburgh University. His research addresses the influence of data analytics in business knowledge. He is director of the award winning programme ‘Making Use of Digital Research’: http://tinyurl.com/PGcertdigitalresearch. He is also investigator for the RCUK CREATe Research Centre on the impact of digital economy in the creative industry. He has a track record of publications in internationally reputed peer-reviewed journals ranging from Financial Accountability & Management to Engineering Studies and Information, Communication & Society. His most recent award is to apply data analytics techniques to understand Industry Analysts careers.

Nicola Whitton

Nicola Whitton is a Senior Research Fellow at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on digital innovation in learning and teaching and, in particular games and learning in the context of Higher Education. Her research interests include interaction design, the impact of motivation and engagement, active learning design, and the pedagogy of play.

James Keift

I started in further education in 1996 delivering evening & weekend classes,  then progressed to full time teaching on the level 3 and HE photography courses.  During my time teaching I have always used technology as integral part of delivery initially using Blackboard and then Moodle.

In 2011 I took on the role of Learning Technologies manager at Reading College, Initially working with the College’s Moodle platform, I then oversaw the move away from Moodle to using Google Communities, sites and other web based apps.  I was the joint runner up in the ALT learning Technologist of the Year Award  in September 2014.

Joel Mills

Joel saw his first computer in 1977 aged 5; a Sinclair calculator and has been hooked ever since. His teaching career started in 1997 and since 2009 he has undertaken projects with Kaplan Learning, Essex University and Northumbria University working on research developing mobile teaching and learning workflows. In 2010 he set up iLearningUK to advise Educational institutions on suitable pedagogies using technology. Joel is currently working at the University of Hull as a lecturer and advisor on all aspects of teaching enhanced learning.

John Kerr

John Kerr is the Learning Innovation Officer for the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow. His focus is on implementing and embedding new and existing learning technologies to improve learning and teaching. He has successfully helped develop and execute two FutureLearn MOOCs and, along with the roll out of Google Glass, he is building two of the Universities first fully online courses.

Alison Nimmo
