It will introduce a model designed to help educators integrate GenAI effectively within their teaching. It will consider questions of authorship, ethics, and creative identity, contrasting the perspectives of creative and non‑creative staff who use GenAI tools. These differing backgrounds highlight the varied approaches to GenAI and demonstrate how such insights can inform teaching strategies. During the session, we will show practical examples of AI workflows, demonstrate AI‑generated artefacts, and reflect on how educators can support students in developing critical, ethical, and informed approaches to AI within their own disciplines.

Antiracism in Learning Technology (ARLT) SIG presents:
Lunch & Share- a one-hour, informal discussion space held 12 noon–1pm on the last Tuesday of every month.
How do we ensure learning technologies actively support antiracist practice rather than unintentionally reinforcing inequities?
Join the Conversation in a Safe Space as we discuss contemporary questions impacting the field of antiracism and learning technology.

Join the Conversation: Antiracism in Learning Technology Monthly Lunch & Share: How do we ensure learning technologies actively support antiracist practice rather than unintentionally reinforcing inequities? These are the kinds of questions we explore in the Antiracism in Learning Technology (ARLT) SIG Monthly ‘Lunch & Share’ - a one-hour, informal discussion space held from 12 noon to 1:00 PM on the last Tuesday of every month.

This session is designed as a safe, supportive environment where colleagues across higher and further education can come together to reflect on contemporary issues in antiracism and learning technology. Whether you are just beginning to think about antiracist approaches or are already deeply embedded in this work, the meeting offers a welcoming space to listen, question, and contribute.

A key feature of the Lunch & Share is the opportunity to bring and discuss case studies. Participants are invited to share practical examples of projects, challenges, or successes where antiracism intersects with education and learning technology. These might include curriculum design, assessment, accessibility, staff development, platform choices, or student partnership work. Sharing a case study allows you to gain constructive feedback, learn from peers facing similar challenges, and reflect more deeply on your own practice. There are also clear benefits to attending even if you’re not presenting. Participants gain exposure to real-world examples, develop a stronger understanding of antiracist principles in digital education, and build connections with a growing community of practice. Many attendees value the space as a rare opportunity to have open, thoughtful conversations about complex issues that are not always easy to discuss elsewhere. The ARLT SIG will also help amplify shared case studies to a wider audience, increasing visibility for your work and supporting collective learning across the sector.

Bring your lunch, your curiosity, and your experiences, and be part of a community committed to meaningful change in learning technology. If you would like to share a case study during one of our Lunch & Share sessions and would like us to dedicate some time to it during the session, please email us at arltsig@alt.ac.uk at least a week before the session.

DLI: Best Practice in Setting Up and Rolling Out Micro‑credentials in Universities

Micro‑credentials are rapidly moving from pilots to core institutional strategy, but many universities are still grappling with questions of quality, governance, and scale.

Join us on 20 May, 12pm BST / 7am EST for this session, delivered by the Digital Learning Institute in collaboration with the Association for Learning Technology. The webinar will share practical lessons and concrete examples of how to design, approve, and roll out credible, stackable micro‑credentials that align with institutional priorities and national expectations.

Key takeaways – what you’ll learn

By the end of this webinar, participants will:

Understand the key features of a high‑quality micro‑credential

How micro‑credentials differ from short courses and CPD, and why clear definitions and standards matter for learners, employers and regulators.

See how micro‑credentials fit within existing quality and governance structures

Approaches to programme approval, credit and level setting, assessment, and quality assurance that work with – not against – current university processes.

Explore models for stackable and pathway‑driven micro‑credentials

Examples of how micro‑credentials can stack into larger awards, support lifelong learning, and offer flexible entry and re‑entry routes for diverse learners.

Identify the institutional setup and infrastructure needed for success

Roles and responsibilities, cross‑functional collaboration, and the enabling digital infrastructure (VLE, badging, learner records) that support sustainable delivery.

Learn from real‑world implementations and common pitfalls

Practical insights, lessons learned and “what we’d do differently next time” from universities that have moved beyond pilot stage.

OER26: Openness Reimagined: Continuity, Change and Shared Vision

Openness Reimagined: Continuity, Change and Shared Vision
Sustaining the ethos and values of open in a changing landscape

22-23 June 2026 (Milton Keynes, UK)

Open education has always been both a practice and a proposition. It is grounded in commitments to access, equity, collaboration, and the sharing of knowledge as a public good. Over decades, these commitments have taken institutional form through open educational resources, open practices, open pedagogy, open research, open access publishing, and global networks of collaboration. Openness has shaped learning systems, expanded participation, and redefined what education can be.

OER26 invites delegates to reimagine and re-theorise openness while recognising the enduring ethos that has sustained the movement from its earliest days.

Hosted by the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University (UK), widely recognised as one of the foundational institutions in the modern open education movement, this event offers a distinctive space for reflection and renewal. Established in 1969 with a radical commitment to widening participation and removing barriers to higher education, The Open University has long embodied the principle that education should be open to people, places, methods, and ideas. Its history reminds us that openness represents and constitutes an ongoing, transformative ethical and social commitment. Bringing the conference to this setting underscores both continuity and change: continuity in the enduring values of openness, and change in the technological, political, and institutional environments in which those values are enacted.

OER26 will foster dialogue across disciplines and regions, welcoming diverse interpretations of what openness means and what it might become. Our call for proposals welcomes contributions that explore how the ethos of openness is sustained, challenged, institutionalised, or transformed in the current moment.

Cochairs
Dr Rob Farrow and Dr Beck Pitt, from the Institute of Educational Technology at The Open University, serve as co‑directors of the Global OER Graduate Network (GO‑GN). Their longstanding commitment to open education research, community building, and global collaboration brings a distinctive perspective to this year’s conference, ensuring a programme that is both inclusive and forward‑looking.

Lunch and Share: Safe Space Discussion on Contemporary Issues in Antiracism and Learning Technology

Join the Conversation: Antiracism in Learning Technology - Monthly Lunch & Share: How do we ensure learning technologies actively support antiracist practice rather than unintentionally reinforcing inequities?

When: 30 Jun 2026 12:00 PM through 01:00 pm Where: Online
