Emerge community event

Date:   2007-07-10
Time:   09:00
Venue:   Manchester's Lowry Centre (Pre-event activities at The Golden Tulip on 9 July)
Presenter(s):   Various members of the EMERGE team will present. Further information will follow.
Description:

The July event takes place over two days, the evening of Monday 9 and the day of Tuesday 10. The EMERGE team have deliberately chosen to hold this event at an arts and performing arts centre. The Lowry Centre provides both formal and informal learning opportunities in a regenerated urban setting. The physical space and the virtual space of the community and the Centre should stimulate engagement with the wider world of lifelong learning.

The aims of this event are to:
  • Consolidate and celebrate the development and vibrancy of the Emerge community;
  • Identify and develop shared interests;
  • To plan, as a whole community, our future direction and goals.

    The event will enable you to:
  • Draw together and share the emerging themes of the community;
  • Communicate the research findings to date and the developing model of community success;
  • Showcase your current research and development activity;
  • Connect with expertise and ideas across the community;
  • Engage formally with project success criteria;
  • Provide teams the opportunity to guage their own development in line with the UIDM;
  • Develop your project ideas and approaches;
  • Strengthen and formalise partnerships across the community;
  • Begin to map our future activity.

  • Evening activities take place at the Golden Tulip Hotel from 6pm onwards, and include a 3-course meal with a pre dinner drinks reception and networking activities. There will be ample time to meet and talk with the other members of the community. The evening event will set the scene for the following day's event, and provide a great opportunity for team members to promote the sessions they are running to the rest of the community.
    Should you require overnight accommodation, a block booking has been made at The Golden Tulip, Manchester. Each room, on a bed and breakfast basis, will all feature modern and comfortable furnishings with free broadband Wi-Fi internet access, satellite TV, modem points, Quadriga in-house movie system, an en-suite bathroom, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer, trouser press, iron & ironing board, direct dial telephone with the added treat of bathrobes, complimentary mineral water and luxury toiletries.

  • The day conference will be held at Manchester's Lowry Centre set in a magnificent waterside location at the heart of the redeveloped Salford Quays in Greater Manchester. The event is structured to enable the community to show their strengths. The event will be participatory, bringing community generated activity to the fore. Everyone is expected to contribute to making a success of the day. Project teams will take the lead in providing the activities for this event within a structured framework provided by the Emerge team. We will provide the platform; the community will co- construct the content. You may host a seminar, workshop or discussion, either as a group or in collaboration with other Emerge community members; you may engage in formal development of your U&I project model. Alongside the community generated activity, there will be UIDM surgeries, success criteria surgeries, and community learning environment surgeries to help you in the project development cycle. Refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided throughout the day.
