Networked handheld devices for learning and teaching: 12 to 13 November 2009

Questions and answers

Here are the questions we had received about the workshop by the stated deadline of 16 October, together with our answers.

Q1. The publicity says the event runs from 16.30 on 12 November to 15.30 on 13 November. What are the hours? Does it run all night?

A1. The assumption is that delegates will stay overnight at the National College for Leadership for Schools and Children’s Services in Nottingham, where we will provide dinner and accommodation. We'll not stop anyone living in Nottingham from returning home after dinner, but we plan to amke an 08.30 start on 13 November. We will finish by 15.30, enabling most participants to get home by the early evening of that day.

Q2. I'm interested in hearing other experiences in the use of handheld devices within an educational environment but not within a college/school/university environment as most of my work is on employer premises. Do you feel attendance on this programme would be relevant. Will there be other attendees who are working with vocational qualifications or are they all from an academic environment?

A2. Our aim is to make this workshop cross-sectoral, with representation from schools, colleges, universities, community education, and work-based learning.

Q3. Can you please tell me how much this workshop will cost please i.e. accomodation and conference dinner?

A3. There will be no charge for those invited to attend from amongst the large number of people who express an interest in attendance, and we have some budget for cover for attendees whose classes need covering. (Reminder of what we say in the event publicity: "We expect demand for places on this workshop to exceed supply, and we need also to ensure a balance of participation from different sectors. For these reasons, if you wish to take part, please express an interest. To do this, please complete the form at http://tinyurl.com/y9t6an2 by no later than 12 noon on Friday 23 October. Those invited to attend will be notified on Tuesday 27 October, giving sufficient time to book travel at reasonably economical rates, and to make arrangements for cover.
