Computer Science in the school curriculum

A contribution to the current discussion

In April 2011 ALT responded to the DFE consultation about revisions to the National Curriculum for England. There is currently plenty of discussion in the education, industry, Government and the media about the place of Computer Science in the curriculum in English schools. During later 2011 we consulted within ALT and more widely and have framed some views on this issue, in the form of a response to three questions:

  1. To get the next generation of comp scientists do we need CS in the NC?
  2. Where do we put CS?
  3. Should CS be only for those who are interested or for all?

We offer this document as a contribution to the discussion.
