Changes to ALT's membership and fee structure

February 2012

Here is an overview of the changes to our fee structure for 2012/2013. The changes flow mainly from our widely welcomed decision to turn our journal Research in Learning Technology into an Open Access publication from 1 January 2012. The full archive from 1993, and the current Volume, are now freely available online on the journal's website. Please refer to ALT membership at-a-glance [152 kb PDF] and the membership fee table for further information.

Organisational Membership

We are holding Organisational Membership fees at the 2009 level, which represents a substantial cut in real terms. Subscribers to Research in Learning Technology in print will receive annually four Issues (previously three) and, normally, two Supplements, one of which will be the Proceedings Papers from the annual ALT Conference.

Organisational Members can choose whether to receive a print subscription. The annual fee is charged at a lower level if the membership does not include a print subscription.

From February 2012 ALT is also introducing two new fee bands for UK organisations and a fee structure for organisations based outside the UK. Please refer to the membership fee table for further information.

Sponsoring Membership

We are holding Sponsoring Membership fees at the 2009 level, which represents a substantial cut in real terms. Subscribers to Research in Learning Technology in print will receive annually four Issues (previously three) and, normally, two Supplements, one of which will be the Proceedings Papers from the annual ALT Conference.

Sponsoring Members can opt to receive a print subscription at no extra cost.

Ordinary Membership

Ordinary Membership fees have changed to reflect the transition of ALT's journal, Research in Learning Technology, to Open Access. Ordinary Members based outside the UK who choose not to receive a print subscription to Research in Learning Technology are charged at the same fee level as UK members.

Certified Membership (CMALT)

The annual Certified Membership fee also covers the cost of the 3-year review for CMALT Holders, which will be implemented formally in 2012. CMALT Holders will receive further information in due course.

CMALT Candidates

The CMALT registration fee is being increased from the 2005 level, with current initiatives continuing to operate without change. A discounted rate for unemployed members of ALT will also continue to be offered. For further information please refer to the CMALT registration page.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership fees, rights and entitlements will not change. In particular, any employee of an Organisational or Sponsoring Member can join us as an Associate Members for free.

Depending on the results of our next biennial membership survey and on the uptake of print subscriptions to Research in Learning Technology we may make further changes to our fee structure from February 2013.
