Background

As we witness the rapid growth in the market for E Reading devices and E Books, this seminar will explore the potential of this technology in adult learning programmes and explore the implications for policy and practice. The seminar will be informed by case study examples and research into the use of E readers. This event will be planned and delivered jointly by NIACE and the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) and will cover the range of adult learning including initial literacy classes, adult community learning, further education and higher education.

Reading for Pleasure (Libraries and Literacy Teaching)
Genevieve Clark from the Reading Agency will facilitate a discussion on how the use of e-readers can open up the benefits of reading for pleasure to support skills development with people who wouldn't pick up a printed book.

In addition, we will arrange sector focused groups which reflect the areas of work of seminar attendees.  We anticipate that these will cover:
