Pre-conference and Post-conference Workshops

Pre-conference workshops were held on Monday, 6 September 2010; start time for the majority was 1400. Pre/post-conference workshops were open to all, with ALT-C delegates being given priority of attendance.

Pre conference workshops

Developing Digital Capability in Learners and Institutions

In this workshop, presenters discussed how to develop digitally capable learners through:

  • Showcasing institutional case studies and materials from diverse institutions and curriculum teams in UK HE/FE institutions;
  • Sharing materials to support institutional and curriculum development;
  • Offering research findings supporting the case for institutional and curriculum change in digital literacies.

Topics covered and outcomes

  • Graduate digital skill-sets, institutional roles in developing digital capabilities;
  • Opportunities to use and adopt/adapt materials;
  • Opportunities to share experiences and strategies for supporting learners;
  • Opportunities to frame a high-level institutional response;
  • Use of outcomes in ALT-C Symposium on Digital Literacies.

Helen Beetham, JISC Consultant and lead, Learning Literacies in a Digital Age; Fred Garnett; Visiting Researcher LKL and Theme Leader Digital Literacies (TLRP-TEL); Dr. Rhona Sharpe Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development, Oxford Brookes.

CMALT Assessors' workshop

In this workshop, presenters discussed the CMALT assessment process from an assessors perspective and provided:

  • Guidance for current and prospective assessors;
  • Overview of the assessment process and criteria.

Topics covered and outcomes

  • Marking critieria and practice;
  • Providing feedback for candidates;
  • Express an interest to become a CMALT Assessor;
  • Review sample portfolios;
  • Share and discuss your experiences of the assessment process.
